A Camp

From the castle, a forest road led into dense coniferous woods, and at the point where it split into a Y-shape, our camp was to be set up. It became a military field camp with some 20-man tents spread out among the tall pine trees. Sanitary arrangements consisted of several outdoor washing stations with water cans and basins. There were also several latrine pits, dug extra deep so they could gradually be covered with layers of soil, equipped with a sitting bar made from a roughly hewn spruce log, and, as an added luxury, another bar to lean one’s back against.

A well-equipped repair section was available, as well as a fuel depot at a safe distance. There was also a field kitchen unit with a small field bakery. This was named “Restaurant Day and Night,” with a beautifully crafted sign, made from the products of the forest, placed above the entrance to the dining area.
