A Medical Transport

The first contingent of 153 chronically ill patients was able to leave the camp. Most of them were seriously ill, bedridden individuals. There were cases of typhus, typhoid, and dysentery. In addition, some were convalescing after severe diphtheria with paralysis, advanced pulmonary tuberculosis, purulent pleurisy, widespread tissue necrosis, severe heart conditions, extreme emaciation, and more. In other words, it was a procession of neglect, suffering, and sorrow as the patients were carried from the hospital barracks to the Swedish buses.
