A transport from Bergen-Belsen arrived with 11 seriously ill prisoners suffering from typhus. One of these sick prisoners reported that 13 Scandinavians had died of typhus in the camp during the past week. On a couple of occasions, the German authorities requested the acquisition of Zyklon (hydrogen cyanide) from Sweden or Denmark for delousing purposes. After careful consideration, we decided not to provide the cyanide to the camp authorities, given the prevailing rumors about gas chambers.
