The Last Transport

In the morning, we set off with the last transport carrying about 600 people from Frøslev. All the Danish camps were now emptied of the prisoners who had come from Neuengamme. This journey with the Danish policemen became the most magnificent public celebration I had ever witnessed. Everywhere, the roads were lined with people waving Swedish and Danish flags and cheering for the convoy. In the larger towns we passed, entire crowds gathered. The convoy crawled forward through the cheering masses and was often forced to stop.
