Gestapo Helps

Got up at 4 AM, left at 5 for Neuengamme.
Today has finally come, the day the camp is to be evacuated!
We have been allowed to take all 4,200 Danes and Norwegians who were previously brought here from various other camps and have had it terrible here.
The Swedes have about twenty buses and trucks, while the Danes have scraped together more than 100 buses.
No matter how tired these prisoners are, how sickly and miserable they look, they are incredibly happy when they hear us speak and realize they will finally get out of here.

Early in the morning, the Germans demand that only one bus at a time may enter the yard and that every prisoner be thoroughly searched.
I report the hassle, and Gestapo chief Rennau makes sure things move faster.
The prison guards go pale.
We have until 7 PM.
At 6:30 PM the last prisoner is loaded.
All done!
