Danish Police

At a rather late stage of the war, the Germans rounded up all Danish police officers and sent them to Germany. They were accused of collaborating with the Danish resistance. I took part in two repatriation transports of police officers. We picked them up from various camps near Leipzig and Torgau, and if I remember correctly, transported them to camps in southern Jutland.

Most of them were dressed in their uniforms and were generally in good condition. The camps they had been held in were not of the worst kind, and they had received care packages fairly regularly. Naturally, they were very happy that we were taking them back to Denmark, and among other things, they gave us their police badges as keepsakes. Some even gave away their police ID tags.
