Digital exhibitionSpeaking Memories

Franz Cohn

Born on March 18, 1927 in Chemnitz, Germany. Died April 29, 2023, Stockholm.

I grew up with my parents and two older sisters. Went to school from age six and was thrown out of school at age eleven because I am Jewish. I spent the war years in Sweden. I came to Sweden on January 17, 1939. Sweden allowed at that time 500 kids from Germany and Austria to come. It was called Kindertransport. I spent the war years here, contrary to my parents who went to Norway and were deported from there in November 1942. I went to an engineering school and then worked in Hi-Tech.

Be aware of anti-Semitism in all forms. Remember that Israel is a place where Jews are always welcome and can take care of each other.
