Walter Frankenstein
Born on June 30, 1924, in Flatow, Germany (now Poland).
I went to public school until 1936 when the principal told me that Jews were no longer welcome. My mother sent me to Berlin into a school for Jewish orphan children. This is where i met my wife, Leonie. 1943 I was taken by the Gestapo to force labor in a factory. My mother was deported to Auschwitz were she was murdered. My mother-in-law was also murdered in Auschwitz. We lived in Leipzig with false identity for a while. Then we moved back to Berlin, that at this time towards end of the war, was heavily bombed. We hid in the underground for five days with no food until the red army soldiers found us. When I saw the first soviet soldier, I hugged him. After the war we moved to Israel. I was active with the illegal immigration, was arrested and put in a concentration camp in Cyprus. I participated in Israel´s war of independence. In 1956 we came to Sweden.

Think on your own! What is happening now reminds me of the 30s.
