Two of the works from the exhibition My Grandmother Hédi Fried. Photo: Sanna Fried
The exhibition is about Sanna's relationship and dealing with the fact that her grandmother Hédi Fried was a Holocaust survivor and came to Sweden after the liberation with the UNRRA transports (The White Boats). Hédi had a special impact on Sanna's life and inspired Sanna to paint at an early age. Sanna has painted her grandmother in nine different works. Seven of which have previously been showed. This summer two new works are being shown for the first time.
At the museum you can see the whole exhibition and read more about Sanna and how she, as a third-generation survivor, reflects on what it means to be the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors and how it has affected her life.
The exhibition will be on display in the museum's lounge and in the archive search room from May 20 to August 23 2026.
It is an intimate portrait of a strong woman who has moved on from something unimaginably terrible and lived beyond what was expected of her.

The exhibition is shown in collaboration with Sanna Fried, Sanna Fried owns all 9 works. If you want to read more about Sanna you can visit her website.
